At Just2 Tutoring, we often consult with families regarding their child’s recent Neuro-Psych or Psycho-Educational evaluation results. Parents have many questions regarding the results and want to understand how the report impacts services their child receives within the school setting. We meet with parents to discuss the school staffing assignment process, establish student needs, and determine parent requests or concerns.
It is common for parents to feel intimidated by the formal meeting, staffing, and documentation process. Parents also may find themselves wondering whether or not the evaluation gives an accurate representation of their child’s needs and the services provided. Our experience of sitting on both sides of the table allows us to attend these meetings with you as an especially informed advocate for both yourself and your child. Moms and dads often feel that their requests and concerns are better heard when articulated by their Just2 504/IEP consultant.
Eligibility for services must equate to appropriate support; there is no point in identifying a child without a clear plan that will provide the student access to the services that they require. For example, often, a student with processing speed or focus challenges will require extended time on tests and assignments, access to teacher notes, and online posting of assignments. These accommodations are requested within the meetings, often called staffings, based upon the recommendations of the evaluator(s), parents, doctors, and teachers. When these support methods become written in a 504 or IEP document, delivery of student support becomes required by law and is relevant to college placement testing as well as collegiate level accommodations.
Parents of students who attend charter or parochial schools, smaller academies, or private schools also often have questions about how academic support for their child might be provided within the context of a non-public school. Our experienced consultation with families helps alleviate any unnecessary stress and make clear the optimal path forward for themselves and their children.
Just2 has been consulting with elementary through university-level students and their families through the transition, eligibility, and implementation of the accommodation processes for over 20 years.
