Looking for tutoring for kids? Some parents aren’t sure whether their children need tutoring. After all, kids won’t usually tell you that they need a tutor. They may not even know themselves if they need some extra help. It’s especially tough to tell with very young kids. So, how can you tell whether or not your child needs tutoring? Look for the signs we’ve listed below. If you notice one or more of these signs, tutoring can help your child thrive in school.

Homework Anxiety

Very few children actually enjoy homework. However, if your kid’s homework reluctance has turned into homework anxiety, you may want to look into tutoring for kids. An anxious child will do anything to avoid homework, especially homework for tough subjects. He or she may even lie to you about whether or not homework is due. If that happens, your child isn’t trying to disrespect you. He or she is just trying to avoid a stressful situation. Tutoring can make homework less stressful as your child gains more and more mastery over school subjects.

Executive Function Issues

What are executive functions? Put simply, they’re the skills that people need to function in daily life. Emotional regulation is one example of an executive function. Organization is another. If your child struggles academically, poor executive functioning may be the issue. Take a few minutes to look up the basic executive functions. See if you notice any patterns with your child. Believe it or not, tutoring for kids can help with executive function skills.

Non-Academic Struggles

Obviously, poor grades can be a sign that your child needs extra help. However, you might notice some non-academic struggles, too. For instance, does your child struggle to tell time on an analog clock? If so, he or she may also have math struggles. Look for overlaps between school and home.

Good Eyesight

What does eyesight have to do with tutoring? More than you might realize. Sometimes, a kid who seems to be having school trouble really just can’t see the board. Have your child’s vision checked. If your kid’s problems vanish after he or she gets glasses, then tutoring may not be necessary. However, if your child has no vision problems but still struggles in school, tutoring will help.
